Donald Trump has been accused of lying about the availability of coronavirus test kits following his latest fractious White House press briefing, at which he duelled with journalists and soothed his wounded ego by lashing out at “wise guy” governors and blaming his predecessor Barack Obama for leaving him with a stockpile of “garbage” ventilators.

The president also used the session to express sympathy for the armed anti-lockdown protesters who demonstrated at state capitals across the country over the weekend demanding an end to quarantine restrictions, as healthcare workers in Colorado went viral for blocking “Operation Gridlock” efforts in their scrubs.

Meanwhile, New York City mayor Bill de Blasio has asked Trump whether he expects the epicentre of the outbreak to simply “drop dead” for lack of funding as governor Andrew Cuomo announces the state has finally “past its peak” of Covid-19 cases.
